SEVIS

SEVIS[1]

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) has been introduced by the U.S. government in order to properly and successfully to track all J-1 program participants.

SEVIS requires that all J-1 program participants check in for their program with United Work and Travel, a division of American Pool Enterprises, Inc. within 72 hours (3 days) of arrival to the USA by going online to www.myuwt.com or by calling our office toll free at 1-866-IGO2USA (446-2872).

IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER WITH SEVIS, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF LOSING YOUR LEGAL J-1 STATUS AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO PROGRAM DISMISSAL.

Furthermore, program participants are now required to check in with their sponsor at least every 30 days after their initial program check-in to confirm that you are safe and continuing to successfully complete your program with your approved host company employer. This can be completed by telephone, email or by logging on to www.myuwt.com and clicking on the “check in here” tab from the website home page.

We will contact you using the email and phone number provided to our office in your initial program check-in. Please ensure that you respond! It is a U.S. Department of State and program sponsor requirement!

There has been a recent change with regard to the processing  DS-2019 forms at ports of entry. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has stopped the practice of placing admission stamps on these forms upon entry. This has caused problems for some J-1 participants, especially at Social Security Administration (SSA), where some participants were being turned away and asked to secure the stamp. Please click here to see the official letter of instruction should you be put in a situation where you are turned away from the Social Security Administration.
